Short bio | My areas of research are strongly related to health inequalities in particular around the healthcare needs of older people (aged over 65). In addition I am continuing to develop a strong strand of work around gender based violence across the life span with a focus on women. As a social scientist with a background in teaching I am threading evidence based healthcare, often conducted through research, into healthcare education programmes including undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which attract UK and international learners. |
Research interests | My own areas of research are on older people, domestic violence and abuse (DVA) and healthcare education. I have conducted studies on older people living in care homes, transitions from acute settings to home or community hospitals and the involvement of family carers for those with a cognitive impairment. |
Research projects on COVID and Long-Term Care | I initiated and led a UK wide study on family carers and their experiences of visiting a relative in a care home during the UK national lockdown from March 2020. The study details can be found here https://www.dmu.ac.uk/research/centres-institutes/ihhpsc/project-information.aspx I have also engaged and collaborated with colleagues with an interest in this area including academic colleagues at Hull, Leeds, Nottingham and LSE Universities. In addition, I have supported activities with colleagues based in Austria, Brazil, Canada, Holland, and South Africa |
