Abstract:
Care homes are probably where the impact by Covid-19 pandemic has been more significant, especially the ones for old people. Beyond the death toll it is likely that there have been many and significant effects on psychological and social well-being of the residents, their families, and professionals. There has been no systematic and in-depth evaluation of this reality in Catalonia, which would be crucial for planning better responses to similar situations. RESICovid-19 Project objectives are to evaluate the impact of the pandemic on people living in care homes from Catalonia, as well as on their families, workers and organisations; and to build proposals for improving the care model based on the lessons learnt. In order to do so, a research strategy with different methodologies has been designed. For the first objective the methodologies are: a Systematic literature review for an international contextualization; a Retrospective population-based study (from March 2020) with the analysis of big data from the Catalan Health Service’s Register of Morbidity and Use of Healthcare Resources of the population of Catalonia living in long-term care homes; a Mixed quantitive and qualitative multicentric cohort of care homes from Catalonia, their users, relatives and staff in order to describe their basic characteristics, experiences, care model and Covid-19 impact. For the second objective the methodologies used are: a SWOT analyses of model and quality of care with the cohort of residents, relatives, and staff; and an international benchmarking of improvement proposals.
